THE RIVERLINE AMBASSADORS

The Riverline Ambassadors are local community leaders who commit their time to strengthening the connection between The Riverline and the surrounding neighborhoods. Ambassadors share information about The Riverline with their neighbors, help publicize and run events, and bring us ideas and input from their communities to help us shape this great public space.

The Riverline Ambassadors commit an average of 5 hours per month to their work and are paid for their time. This includes an initial training session, attending monthly Ambassador meetings, and completion of at least one Ambassador activity per month.

July 2023 Event at Undergrounds Coffee

In 2023, two dedicated and enthusiastic Ambassadors completed the program: Martha Heidinger and Matt Renkas. They increased the capacity of The Riverline team by helping to promote, organize, and implement our programming. Activities completed by the Ambassadors included:

  • Tabling and interacting with the public at community engagement events such as The Riverline Winter Fun Day, the Old First Ward Shamrock Run, and the public events related to our Community Arts Program.

  • Organizing and co-leading our community service cleanup and planting events.

  • Going door-to-door in The Riverline neighborhoods to hand out fliers, as well as promoting events and programs on social media.

  • Participation at block groups, The Riverline Project Committee, and other meetings to make announcements, give updates, and answer questions.

  • General outreach with the community – discussions with neighbors, local business owners, and others about The Riverline.

Matt, in his year-end evaluation form, put it well: “The most important role for The Riverline is community outreach. There are a lot of behind-the-scenes details that the public is unaware of. The Ambassador program helps continue momentum for the project while keeping the public updated on its progress.”
